Dear Colleagues, It is with great sadness that I wish to inform you that our good friend and fellow professional, John Charles, passed away Friday evening Jan. 5th, 2007. He was in the company of family and friends and passed away peacefully after a long and valiant battle with leukemia. More information can be found at www.caringbridge.org. His site is called "sandycharles" all one word with no quotes. A memorial was held on February 3rd, 2007 in Vancouver, WA. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, can be sent to CaringBridge, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the Pearson Air Museum in Vancouver, or to a program in your own community to help end homelessness. As a professional John was exemplary in the paper industry. He contributed much to the industry in the course of his career. He chaired the TAPPI Tissue Runnability Short course for ten years. His creativity was well known. He was instrumental in helping identify and resolve one of the most significant safety issues in the tissue and towel portion of the paper industry that is associated with head-shell corrosion in Yankee dryers. Recently, he had clearly identified the “out of round” phenomena that occurs in Yankees as being primarily related to torsional buckling. John and I were very good friends for 20 years and we were co-founders of PROdry Technology, nearly 10 years ago. He was my mentor. Besides performing at all times with the highest level of ethics John was well known as a true scientist in our industry. He always felt that we at PROdry needed to “speak with data” with our customers. He would make that extra effort to improve our data collection so that we made sound recommendations based on facts. John has left a magnificent legacy to his family, friends, and to the industry he worked in for 26 years. His optimism, creativity, love for life and love for his family and friends will not be forgotten. We will all miss him. PROdry Technology will continue on. John’s legacy to PROdry and the paper industry will continue. The unique analysis techniques and software that PROdry has been known for will continue to be available to our customers. I thank you for your considerate support during these trying times and I look forward to continuing our professional and business relationships into the future. Sincerely, Vice President ![]() © 2007
